New Mallard Creek Road bridge is part of I-85/I-485 interchange project
CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will be shifting traffic on Mallard Creek Road over I-85 in Charlotte at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, weather permitting. Motorists will drive on a new bridge built as part of the $92.2 million I-85/I-485 interchange conversion, creating the first turbine interchange in North Carolina.
The Mallard Creek Road bridge had to be rebuilt to accommodate the new on and off-ramps that will connect I-85 to the new interchange. The team of Lane Construction and STV-Ralph Whitehead Associates has created a visual rendering of the turbine design.
The project is scheduled to be completed in June 2014.
