Bridge Replacement Project will Close Tunstall Swamp Road starting Monday Friday, November 9, 2012

RALEIGH — Tunstall Swamp Road west of Aurora in Beaufort County will be closed in both directions starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, as a N.C. Department of Transportation bridge replacement project gets under way. An $892,998 contract was awarded to T.A. Loving Company of Goldsboro to replace the 46-year-old bridge over Durham Creek.

The road closure is expected to remain in place until March 31, 2013.

A 4.4-mile signed detour will be in place. Motorists traveling westbound on Tunstall Swamp Road from N.C. 306 will turn left on Old Sandhill Road, then right on Mary’s Chapel Church Road to get back to Tunstall Swamp Road. Eastbound motorists will take that route in reverse.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch for the road closure signs, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
