Will accommodate reshoots for movie Safe Haven
MANNS HARBOR — The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division will run an abbreviated schedule at the Southport-Fort Fisher route Saturday, Nov. 17, to assist Safe Haven Productions with filming reshoots for its movie.
The amended schedule will last until 2:30 p.m. and includes:
• Departing Southport at: 5:30 a.m., 7, 8:30, 10, 11:30 and 1 p.m.; and
• Departing Fort Fisher at: 6:15 a.m., 7:45, 9:15, 10:45, 12:15 p.m. and 1:45.
After 2:30 p.m., the normal winter schedule will resume. Commuters are asked to make alternate arrangements on that day and visitors are asked to plan ahead for the schedule changes.
The alternate route from the Southport Ferry terminal to Carolina Beach is as follows:
• Go around the traffic circle at the end of Ferry Road and turn right at the first traffic light onto Howe Street. At the second traffic light, turn right onto River Road (N.C. 133/87). Stay on River Road (N.C. 133/87) until you reach the town of Leland. Turn right onto N.C. 17/74/76 to Wilmington. Cross over the bridge and get on U.S. 421 South to Carolina Beach.
An NCDOT ferry and a crew will be utilized in the reshoots for the movie Safe Haven, which was filmed in and around the Southport area this summer and is based on a book by Nicholas Sparks.
