Replacement of Two Bridges on U.S. 301/I-95 Business in Fayetteville to Begin Next Month Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Closure will be in place until April 2015

RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation will begin replacing two bridges on U.S. 301/I-95 Business between Middle Road and Grove Street in Fayetteville starting Tuesday, Nov. 13.

The bridge over the Cape Fear River will be completely closed to traffic. The bridge over Cross Creek will remain partially open to local traffic while crews replace one section at a time. Closures will be in place on both bridges until April 2015.

During the closures, motorists will need to use the following signed detour:

  • Southbound I-95 Business traffic will take I-95 to N.C. 24.
  • Southbound U.S. 301 traffic will take Dunn Road to N.C. 24/210 or I-95 to N.C. 24.
  • Local traffic will take Dunn Road or Middle Road.

The bridges were constructed in 1954 and are considered structurally deficient, which means that while the bridges are still safe, they needed to be replaced.
