RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation has selected
a new design for replacing the bridge on Old Cullowhee Road over the Tuckasegee
River in Cullowhee.
The bridge will be replaced in its current location, with
one lane of traffic remaining open during the project.
NCDOT chose this design option based on several factors,
including strong public support, a lower overall project cost and less
right-of-way acquisition associated with this design.
The replacement project is scheduled to start in the winter
of 2015 and will take approximately 18 months to complete.
