RALEIGH — As work continues on U.S. 52, NCDOT will close all lanes of U.S. 52 South and the inside lane of U.S. 52 North between U.S. 421/Business 40 and Martin Luther King Junior Drive each night beginning Sunday, Aug. 5 through Wednesday, Aug. 8. The closures will be in effect each night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next morning.
Motorists traveling on U.S. 52 South should take the following detour route:
- Take Exit 110B (Martin Luther King Junior Drive). Turn left onto Martin Luther King Junior Drive and follow it to U.S. 421/Business 40. Take Exit 6C to U.S. 421/Business 40 West and follow it back to U.S. 52 South.
The closure is necessary for crews to pave the inside shoulders of U.S. 52 and put a temporary barrier wall in place so they can safely remove the existing barrier wall in the median between U.S. 52 North and South.
This is a required step in the construction of a new lane on both U.S. 52 North and South between U.S. 421/Business 40 and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The new lanes will offer drivers a safer way to accelerate or decelerate when getting on or off the highway and help reduce congestion in the area. The work is part of the U.S. 52 Improvement Project.
