Triangle Expressway Phase II Opened Today Wednesday, August 01, 2012

RALEIGH — The second phase of the Triangle Expressway, North Carolina’s first modern toll road, opened this morning following a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Transportation Secretary Gene Conti and Turnpike Authority Executive Director David Joyner were joined by guests as they delivered brief remarks and cut the ribbon opening the new road. Following the ceremony, attendees drove south on the Triangle Expressway.

Phase two connects N.C. 540 between N.C. 55 near Research Triangle Park to U.S. 64 in Apex and is expected to save motorists 20 minutes roundtrip. Tolling will begin on this 6.6-mile section tomorrow, Aug. 2.
