NCDOT to Host a Third Public Meeting for Proposed Improvements to U.S. 17 Business/N.C. 37 and Bridge Replacement in Hertford Tuesday, July 24, 2012

RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on Monday, Aug. 13 regarding proposed improvements to U.S. 17 Business/N.C. 37 and replacement of the swing-span bridge over the Perquimans River.  

NCDOT proposes to build a new bridge to replace the swing-span bridge and the existing road between the swing-span bridge and the U.S. 17 Business/N.C. 37 split. The project in 0.4 miles in length and is currently scheduled for construction to begin in 2017.

These improvements are proposed in order to improve safety.

The meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Perquimans County Recreation Department meeting room, located at 310 Granby St. in Hertford.

NCDOT representatives will begin a formal presentation at 5:30 p.m. and citizens are invited to stop by before or after the presentation to speak with the project team. The opportunity to submit written comments or questions will be provided and is encouraged.

Several alternative designs were presented at two previous workshops. The current designs, as well as two alternatives, will be presented. NCDOT proposes to narrow down the alternatives following the public meeting.
