COMMENTS: Local law enforcement agencies from across the state will join the Governor’s Highway Safety Program to kick off its “Booze It & Lose It: Operation Firecracker” campaign.
GHSP Director Becky Wallace, Sheriff Ingram of Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Capt. Taft of New Hanover Sheriff’s Office and LaRhonda Scott from Mother’s Against Drunk Driving will speak about their mission to remove drunk drivers from North Carolina’s highways and the consequences of drinking and driving.
The Fourth of July campaign begins Friday, June 29 and continues through Sunday, July 8. Additional checkpoints and stepped up patrols will be conducted across the state during the campaign.
Officers charged more than 1,100 North Carolina motorists with DWI during the 2011 “Booze It & Lose It: Operation Firecracker” campaign. More than 3,700 stepped-up patrols and checkpoints were conducted.
