I-40 EAST in Iredell County to be Closed for Bridge Construction Friday, June 15, 2012

Work previously scheduled for westbound lanes now scheduled for eastbound lanes

RALEIGH— Lane closures previously scheduled to take place on I-40 West in Iredell County this weekend will now take place on I-40 East instead, due to a change in the contractor’s schedule. Weather permitting, N.C. Department of Transportation crews will close both lanes of I-40 East at mile marker 146 in Iredell County beginning Saturday, June 16 at 7 p.m. until Sunday, June 17 at 9 a.m.

In addition, one of two lanes will be closed on I-40 East between mile markers 146 and 148 from tonight (Friday, June 15) at 8 p.m. until Sunday, July 17 at noon.

During both closures, motorists are advised to take the following posted detour route:

·         From I-40 East, take exit 149.

·         Turn right off the exit ramp onto Stamey Farm Road.

·         Drive one mile then turn left onto U.S. 70/Hickory Highway.

·         Drive 2.9 miles then turn left onto U.S. 64/Garner Bagnal Blvd.

·         Drive 1.2 miles then turn right onto the entrance ramp for I-40 East.

Crews will be replacing the existing I-40 bridge deck with a latex concrete overlay. Additional night and weekend lane closures will be required over the next month, with all work being weather permitting.
