RALEIGH —The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Turnpike Authority is hosting the Triangle Expressway Trot II on Saturday, July 21. The 5K run is a family- friendly event and all money raised will benefit Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
The Triangle Expressway Trot II will take place on an unopened section of the Triangle Expressway near Green Level West Road in Cary. Registration for the event is $25 through June 20 and $35 from June 21 through the day of the race.
The N.C. Turnpike Authority is hosting the event to celebrate the upcoming opening of phase two of the Triangle Expressway. “Letting the users run on the road before they ride it is a great way to advertise, in addition to raising money for a good cause,” said NC Turnpike Authority Executive Director David Joyner. “We were able to raise more than $20,000 at the Triangle Expressway Trot I and are hoping for the same success this time.”
The second phase of the Triangle Expressway from N.C. 55 to U.S. 64 is scheduled to open August 1 and the third phase from Apex to Holly Springs will follow in January.
