NCDOT TO REPLACE BRIDGE ON MCCOY ROAD IN MECKLENBURG COUNTY Friday, June 01, 2012

CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will close a section of McCoy Road in Huntersville to replace the bridge over Gar Creek beginning Monday, June 11, weather permitting.

The $680,000 contract was awarded to Apple Tuck and Associates of Rutherfordton to remove the existing bridge and substructure, build up the shoulders on the approaches to the bridge, and widen the existing lanes from ten feet to eleven feet. The new bridge will be able to handle heavier vehicles and increased traffic volumes.

Traffic will be detoured around the project from Beatties Ford Road to Hambright Road back to McCoy Road. The bridge replacement is scheduled to be completed October 1, and the contractor can continue vegetation and reforestation work through March 30, 2013.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
