Transportation Secretary Gene Conti Announces "Click It or Ticket" Campaign Monday, May 21, 2012

RALEIGHN.C. Department of Transportation Secretary Gene Conti today announced the launch of a statewide “Click It or Ticket” campaign to crack down on motorists who are not wearing their seat belts. State and local law enforcement officers will increase seat belt enforcement activities during the campaign, which runs today through June 3.

“Buckling up can save your life, so wear your seatbelt no matter where you are seated at in a vehicle. It’s the law,” said Secretary Conti.

Governor’s Highway Safety Program Director Becky Wallace, along with N.C. State Highway Patrol Col. Michael Gilchrist, paralyzed crash victim Lisa Mozingo and local law enforcement kicked off the campaign at the Charlotte Motor Speedway this morning.

In 2011, 397 unbuckled motorists died in crashes on North Carolina roads. “Click It or Ticket” is administered by the N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program. For more information regarding “Click It or Ticket” activities, contact Don Nail (919) 733-3083, or visit the GHSP website.
