Jimmy Bowles Road in Alamance County Closed For Bridge Replacement Monday, April 16, 2012

RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation has closed Jimmy Bowles Road near Elon to replace the bridge over Buttermilk Creek. The bridge is one of seven being replaced throughout the region as part of a $4.8 million bridge replacement project that began last April.
The bridge has been deemed functionally obsolete. This does not mean the bridge is unsafe, but that it no longer meets current design standards for width or load. The new bridge will be able to accommodate larger, heavier vehicles than the current bridge.

Jimmy Bowles Road will remain closed to traffic during construction, which is expected to be complete by July 16. Motorists should use the following signed detour:
  • Stoney Creek Church Road to Altamahaw Racetrack Road to Gwyn Road back to Jimmy Bowles Road.
