Eastbound Lanes of I-26 Reopen in Henderson County as Crews Complete Repairs to Green River Bridge Friday, April 6, 2012

RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation has reopened the eastbound lanes of Interstate 26 near East Flat Rock in Henderson County. A five-mile stretch of I-26 East had been closed since Tuesday night when a tractor-trailer overturned and caught fire on the Peter Guice Bridge over the Green River, spilling sulfuric acid.

Crews worked over the last several days to clean up the spill and repair damage to the bridge. The repairs involved removing the damaged layer of concrete from the bridge deck and pouring new concrete, as well as replacing guardrail.
