***Media Advisory*** "No Need 2 Speed" Campaign Kick off Friday, March 30, 2012



WHAT:                      N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program to kick off “No Need 2 Speed” Campaign.


WHEN:                      Monday, April 2 at 11 a.m.                


WHERE:                   Rockingham Speedway near Media Center




COMMENTS:           Local law enforcement agencies from across the state will join the Governor’s Highway Safety Program to kick off its “No Need 2 Speed” campaign.


GHSP Director Becky Wallace along with N.C. State Highway Patrol Lt. Col. Wellington Scott and Richmond County Sheriff James Clemmons Jr. will speak at the event. Local law enforcement agencies will demonstrate their newest speed detection technology, the LIDAR, on Pit Row. Immediately following, media are invited to observe a “No Need 2 Speed” law enforcement initiative on U.S. 1.


During this week-long campaign, which runs April 2-8, state and local law enforcement officers will increase patrols to catch speeders on all types of roadways, including interstates, major highways, rural roads, two-lane roads and city streets across the state.
