Currituck-Knotts Island Ferry Schedule will Change in New Year
Will result in cost savings of more than $95,000
MANNS HARBOR — The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division will begin running a new schedule at its Currituck-Knotts Island route Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012.
The only change from the current schedule is a slightly later departure time for the early morning run from the Currituck side. The Monday through Friday schedule will be:
• Departing Currituck at 6 a.m., 9, 11, 1 p.m., 3:45 and 5:45 p.m.; and
• Departing Knotts Island at 6:50 a.m., 10, noon, 2 p.m., 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
On Saturdays, Sundays and during the summer when school is not in session, the schedule will change to one fewer trip daily. This new weekend schedule begins Saturday, Jan. 7. The weekend and eight-week summer schedule will be:
• Departing Currituck at 6 a.m., 9, 11, 2 p.m., and 4; and
• Departing Knotts Island at 7 a.m., 10, noon, 3 p.m. and 5.
These two changes will save the Ferry Division an estimated $73,884 in labor and $21,846 in fuel for a total savings of more than $95,000.
