TRANSPORTATION BOARD AWARDS $707,650 FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT IN COLUMBUS COUNTY Thursday, December 11, 2008

RALEIGH — The N.C. Board of Transportation today awarded a $707,650 contract for a bridge replacement project in Columbus County.

S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson was awarded the contract to replace the existing timber-supported two-lane bridge on Pine Log Road (State Road 1437) in Whiteville with a new two-lane bridge in the same location.

Traffic will use Fruit Ridge Road (S.R. 1440), N.C. 130 and Health Center Road (S.R. 1439) as a detour route during construction. Work can begin as early as March 15, 2009, with completion by Aug. 15, 2009.

“Replacing older bridges is a priority in North Carolina, and this project will help ensure the safety and dependability of our infrastructure,” said board member Mac Campbell of Elizabethtown who represents Transportation Division 6, which includes Columbus County.
