NC and VA Rail Projects Being Discussed at Upcoming Meeting Friday, November 17, 2017

RALEIGH – Updates on rail projects in North Carolina and Virginia are expected to be among the topics when the Virginia-North Carolina Interstate High Speed Rail Compact meets on Nov. 29.

The Compact was formed through North Carolina and Virginia legislation in 2004 to study, develop, and promote a plan for high-speed rail service through and between points in Virginia and North Carolina.  The Compact consists of five legislators from Virginia, four legislators from North Carolina, and one North Carolina appointee.

Other issues to be discussed include updates on rail projects in both states, future federal funding opportunities, the Southeast Regional Rail Plan being prepared by the Federal Railroad Administration, and a discussion of the Compact and regional governance models for implementing passenger rail transportation.

The Compact will meet at 10 a.m. in the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Chief Engineer’s Conference Room at 4809 Beryl Drive, Raleigh.

Those who have any questions or need additional information should contact Edward McFalls, Rail Strategic Initiatives Coordinator, at or (919) 707-4727.
