Hammond Road Ramp Access to I-40 East Changes Overnight Thursday Wednesday, April 12, 2017

RALEIGH – Changes are on their way Thursday night, April 13, for the Hammond Road ramp to access Interstate 40 East as part of the Fortify rebuild project in south Raleigh.

Beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, contractor crews will start closing lanes to safely begin work to open the loop ramp on the west side of Hammond Road that has been closed for more than a year. And in turn, the ramp on the east side of Hammond Road that has been open since that closure will be shut down.

The new ramp traffic pattern will be in effect by 5 a.m. on Friday.

The changes mean drivers going south on Hammond Road will once again be able to access I-40 East by turning right onto the loop right after going under the interstate. Northbound drivers will have to turn left at a traffic light to go onto that same loop.

Drivers on Hammond Road need to use extra caution, slow down and watch for other drivers as they get used to the traffic pattern change.

Project details, as well as traffic updates, live traffic cameras and information about alternate transit options can be found on FortifyNC.com.
