Brief Hammond Road Ramp Closure Starts Sunday Friday, March 31, 2017

RALEIGH – The next ramp closure needed for the Interstate 40 Fortify project is planned for Hammond Road this Sunday. April 2. The ramp to I-40 West will be closed from 6 p.m. Sunday until 2 p.m. on Monday, April 3.

Work at that location is to accommodate paving needed for the final tie-in with the travel lanes.

During the Hammond Road closure, drivers can access I-40 West using the South Saunders Street exit. Southbound Hammond Road drivers will be detoured to turn right on Rush Street, and right on South Saunders Street, while northbound drivers will continue onto Person Street, turn left on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and take the ramp for South Dawson Street, which merges onto South Saunders Street.

Drivers need to slow down and use extra caution when driving through the project area, and anticipate extra travel time if using one of the detours.

Project details, as well as traffic updates, live traffic cameras and information about alternate transit options can be found on FortifyNC.com.

Real-time travel information for Fortify and other highways across the state is also available at any time at DriveNC.gov and by following NCDOT on Twitter.
