I-40 West Exit for Rock Quarry Road Closing for Fortify Project Work Thursday, October 13, 2016

RALEIGH – The contractor for the Interstate 40 Fortify project in Raleigh plans to close the westbound exit ramp at Rock Quarry Road (Exit 300A) for nine days, starting at midnight on Friday, Oct. 14. The closure is needed so crews can adjust the ramp to fit the new traffic pattern in that section of the project. The rebuilt ramp is scheduled to be open by 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24.

A short signed detour will send drivers on to Hammond Road (Exit 299), where they can turn left at the end of the ramp, go under the interstate, and then turn left onto I-40 East to get to Rock Quarry Road. Another option for drivers would be to stay on Hammond Road and use it as an alternate route to their destination.

Drivers are reminded to travel the 60 mph speed limit through the work zone and to pay extra attention when approaching the closed Rock Quarry exit. Motorists should watch for other drivers who might be making last-minute lane changes when encountering the ramp closure.

Project details, as well as traffic updates, live traffic cameras and information about alternate transit options can be found on FortifyNC.com. Real-time travel information for Fortify and other highways across the state is also available at any time in the Traveler Services section of NCDOT.gov or by following NCDOT on Twitter.
