NCDOT planning for upcoming public meetings
RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation has received word the Federal Highway Administration has signed the draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for the project known as Complete 540. This work will extend the Triangle Expressway from the N.C. 55 Bypass in Apex to the U.S. 64/U.S. 264 Bypass in Knightdale, completing the 540 Outer Loop around the greater Raleigh area.
Originally, NCDOT had anticipated having the draft EIS signed by the Federal Highway Administration earlier this summer. With this change, the project’s timetable will adjust slightly. A revised timeline will be updated on the Complete 540 webpage as the information becomes available.
The draft EIS does not eliminate any of the alternatives for Complete 540. This signature paves the way for NCDOT to hold a review period for the draft EIS and schedule public meetings near the proposed routes. The meeting dates, times and locations will be announced once they are secured but are expected in early December.
NCDOT will rely on data from the draft EIS and public input from the public meetings to identify the path the route will take.
The draft EIS document will be made available soon via NCDOT web page.
