SHELBY – Weather permitting, on Monday, Aug. 18, the N.C. Department of Transportation will begin replacing a bridge on Robinson Road over Crowders Creek in Gaston County. A portion of Robinson Road will be closed during construction.
A detour will be in place directing motorists to take U.S. 321 to Little Mountain Road, then back to Robinson Road. Signs and barricades will be in place to help motorists navigate the closure.
The project is scheduled for completion by early May 2015.
The existing bridge on Robinson Road was built in 1963 and is considered functionally obsolete. This means that although the bridge is safe, it was built to design standards no longer in use and needs to be replaced.
R.E. Burns and Sons Co. Inc. is the contractor for the $1,030,247 project.
