New bridge is part of I-485 widening project in south Charlotte
CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will have the new flyover bridge connecting Johnston Road to the I-485 Inner Loop open for the Thursday morning commute, as part of the $83.3 million I-485 widening project to add one lane in each direction between I-77 and Rea Road.
This flyover bridge will provide direct access for motorists traveling north on Johnston Road to the Inner Loop without having to wait at a traffic signal to turn left. Once crews complete striping work later tonight, traffic control will be removed and signs will be uncovered to direct drivers to the new bridge.
Motorists should remain alert and use caution in the area as work on the widening project is still in progress, scheduled for completion in December 2014.
