Bridge in Dare County to Close for Replacement Next Month Monday, July 07, 2014

RALEIGH — Starting Monday, August 11, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close a section of Burnside Road west of Manteo in Dare County to replace a bridge as a part of an on-going bridge preservation project. The new bridge is scheduled to open to traffic in mid-November.

The closure is necessary for crews with T.A. Loving Co. of Goldsboro to remove and replace the bridge over a canal, which was originally built in 1977. A detour will be in place to advise motorists to use the other half of Burnside Road to avoid the construction area.

Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect delays. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.

For real-time travel information at any time, call 511, visit the NCDOT traffic website or follow NCDOT on Twitter. Another option is NCDOT Mobile, a phone-friendly version of the NCDOT website.
