Changes per United States Coast Guard 5th District Regulations
RALEIGH – The NC Department of Transportation is modifying the weekday bridge opening of the Gallant’s Channel Drawbridge in Carteret County. The change in schedule is a result of a recent review with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) 5th District of the regulations governing the opening of the bridge.
Beginning Monday, June 30, the bridge will open at 6 a.m. each weekday morning and then not reopen until 8:30 a.m. In the afternoons, following the 4 p.m. opening, it will not reopen until 6:30 p.m. Between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., the bridge will open every hour and half hour. Each evening, the bridge will open on signal from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.
The weekend schedule remains unchanged.
The new schedule will not apply for the passage of the following:
• Federal, State, and local government vessels used for public safety;
• Vessels in distress where a delay would endanger life or property;
• Commercial vessels engaged in rescue or emergency salvage operations; and
• Vessels seeking shelter from severe weather.
