S-Bridge on U.S. 17 Business in Hertford Now Open to Traffic Following Emergency Closure Last Week Thursday, June 19, 2014

RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation has reopened the S-Bridge on U.S. 17 Business over the Perquimans River in Hertford. The bridge reopened to traffic today at 12:40 p.m. following repairs.

NCDOT closed the bridge the morning of Friday, June 13, after a piece of steel from an expansion joint on the bridge slipped and wedged the swing-span of the 85 year-old bridge shut. The bridge was reopened to boat traffic later that day; however, repairs needed to be made before the road could reopen to vehicular traffic.
